It only takes one unexpected moment to change everything.

A job loss. A health crisis. A family emergency. For many families, the distance between stability and homelessness is frighteningly short. It’s not just happening to strangers—it could happen to a neighbor, a coworker, a sibling… maybe even someone you love.

That’s why Thomas House Family Shelter exists. And that’s why we created Thomas House Empowerment Circle (THE Circle) —a community of Empowerment Partners who refuse to sit back and do nothing.

In a world where homelessness is often treated with short-term fixes, Thomas House Family Shelter is creating long-term solutions. For nearly 40 years, we’ve stood in the gap for families facing the unthinkable. But as the needs grow, so must our commitment.

What Is THE Empowerment Circle?

THE Circle isn’t just a giving program—it’s a movement. A growing circle of compassionate, driven individuals who believe that every family deserves a fair chance to rebuild.

It’s where generosity meets purpose. Where your values take root and your impact multiplies.

THE Circle offers several tier levels, each reflecting a deeper investment in long-term change:

  • Legacy Donor – $1,000 to $4,999
  • Empowerment & Hope Donor – $5,000 to $9,999
  • We Are Thomas House Donor – $10,000 to $19,999
  • Mary & Bernie Selz Donor – $20,000 to $25,000

Through tiered annual donations starting at $1,000, members of THE Circle help sustain critical services that empower families to rise from crisis to stability. We’re talking about more than a shelter—we’re talking about:

  • Safe, furnished housing for families in need
  • Career development and job training
  • Financial literacy workshops and job readiness coaching
  • On-site childcare so parents can attend interviews and trainings
  • Tutoring and educational support for children
  • Therapy and trauma-informed care for the entire family

This isn’t just philanthropy. It’s power in action. It’s the kind of community you want to be part of.

Why This Matters

Families don’t just need a place to sleep. They need a plan, a path, and people who believe in their potential.

At Thomas House, 90% of families who complete our program move on to permanent housing. That’s not a statistic—that’s proof that wraparound supports work.

And here’s the truth: it could happen to anyone.

A medical emergency, job layoff, or unexpected loss can leave even the most stable families vulnerable. When the margin between stability and crisis is razor-thin, what stands in the gap?

You can. And so can THE Circle.

The Bigger Picture: What Happens If We Don’t Act?

Without Thomas House, families in crisis would fall through the cracks. They might end up living in cars, bouncing between unsafe motels, or separated due to a lack of stable housing. Children would miss school. Parents would miss job opportunities. The cycle of homelessness would continue.

But when you join THE Circle, you’re actively breaking the cycle of generational poverty and homelessness.

You’re not just helping families survive; you’re giving them the tools to succeed—and the dignity to dream again.

Real Impact, Real Stories

When Jade came to Thomas House with her two children, she had no job, no savings, and no support system. Within a year, she created a resume, received job readiness training, found stable employment, and saved enough to move into her own apartment. Her son, who was originally not interested in being actively involved in school, is now excelling in his academics thanks to tutoring and mentoring support.

That’s what empowerment looks like.

Join Us. Be the Reason.
