That’s why, for over 38 years, we have dedicated ourselves to providing at-risk and unhoused families-with-children a safe and supportive environment where they are empowered to achieve independence and self-sufficiency. 

But a mission alone isn’t enough — it’s the values we live by and the vision we strive toward that truly set us apart. 

Our Vision: Empowering Families, Transforming Futures 

Recently, we took the time to define our vision: Our vision is for every family in America to have a secure and supportive home where they can grow and thrive together. This reflects our deepest hope — that no family will have to face the fear and uncertainty of homelessness. We see a future where families aren’t just housed but have a home where they feel safe, supported, and united. It’s a future where families can build strong foundations and create positive, lasting legacies for generations to come. 

But the path to creating a secure and supportive home is not always straightforward. This October, as we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re reminded of how closely intertwined domestic violence and homelessness are. In fact, 46% of the families we serve have been impacted by domestic violence. 

For many, leaving an abusive relationship means losing their home, their support network, and the stability they once knew. At Thomas House Family Shelter, we stand beside these families as they rebuild their lives, offering them a place of safety, support, and hope for a better future.

We approach every interaction with empathy and understanding, creating a nurturing environment where families can heal, grow, and rebuild. 

Empowerment: 

We don’t just offer temporary shelter — we empower families to break the cycle of homelessness. We believe that the ability to be empowered lies within each individual. Through employment support, financial literacy workshops, and one-on-one support, we give families the tools to regain control of their lives. We walk alongside them, helping them gain the confidence to set and achieve their goals.   

Accountability: 

We hold ourselves and our families accountable to the highest standards. People at every level of the organization are personally committed to achieving key results targeted by the team or organization.
